WA vs QLD #2 - Friday, September 26, 2008

A good start by the WA team.

We earned a couple of early penalty corners. Kymberley scored from the second corner and subbed herself off with a groin injury.

We had most of the play but couldn't find the net to stay 1 up at half time.

In the second half Macca scored, again off a penalty corner and then a cross from Lorraine was deflected in by Betty for the third.

The defence made sure the ball rarely got past halfway and the goalies had an easy day.

Our 40s won 2-0, 45's lost 0-2 and 50s went down 2-3. The 35's had a bye.

Result: WA 3 - QLD #2 0

WA vs VIC - Saturday, September 27, 2008

It was an even game at the start but late in the first half a controversial decision by the umpire gave Victoria a goal.

A free was awarded but Victoria played it well in front of the position without even stopping it, effectively playing on after the whistle was blown. WA allowed this to upset them and lost concentration.

Victoria scored again in the second half.

WA players were all rather disappointed with their performance, which was below par.

Result: WA 0 - VIC 2

WA vs QLD #1 - Sunday, September 28, 2008

The game was at 7pm and a was a lot cooler than for the previous two games.

Queensland scored an early goal from a penalty corner. It appeared to have been a badly aimed shot on goal that went left where the pusher managed a deflection.

In a contrast to WA's previous game, this time they maintained their composure and continued to have most of the play but could not score before half time.

WA remained scoreless until half-way through the second half.
A penalty corner with a fumbled trap and a series of scrambled passes got the ball back into the circle to Karen on the left post who pushed it past the goalie and over the line.

Shortly after there was a fast break, which resulted in a WA circle penetration, where the ball was pushed past the goalie by Betty, to put WA up 2-1.

That was the final score and the WA team left the venue with a much more positive feeling than the day before.

This result puts WA into second place, based on goal difference.

The WA defence was very good today, allowing the Queensland opposition only a few circle entries.
The Queensland goal was against the run of play and the WA goalie was heard to mention that she hadn't touched the ball for the whole game.

Result: WA 2 - QLD1 1

WA vs SA - Tuesday, September 30, 2008

This game was played in the heat of the day at 1pm.

WA had most of the play and were unlucky not to get a win.

WA was on the boad first when Dot scored a goal after the ball moved around in the circle from player to player.

South Australia equalised on a penalty corner and that was the score at half time.

In the second half WA again had most of the play when SA got a big hit away, which deflected off one of the WA sticks, past the WA fullback to a SA striker in the circle who capitalised. The WA goalie didn't really have much of a chance to defend this goal.

Once again the WA team fought back and were awarded a number of penalty corners.

Finally on one of those, a number of rebounds resulted in Ev, Kymberley and finally Karen making good the shot.

Goal scorers: Dot and Karen

Result: WA 2 - SA 2

WA vs NSW - Wednesday, October 1, 2008

NSW came into this last round match with 4 wins and no goals scored against them.

The NSW side scored early from a penalty corner but WA equalised in the first half when a long pass from Karen at full back got to Kymberley on the 25.
She passed two players and ran into the circle to score.

WA had a lot of trouble getting into the circle and when they did it was very cluttered.

NSW scored another two goals in the second half; one on a penalty corner which deflected off Alene's pads to the top of the net.

WA had their first and only short corner in this half. Kymberley's shot hit the backboard but the umpire disallowed it, saying it didn't fully go out of the circle.

Despite the result, WA are confident and play Victoria tomorrow after finishing third.

Goal scorers: Kymberley

Result: WA 1 - NSW 3

SemiFinal - WA vs VIC - Thursday, October 2, 2008

Finishing 3rd, we needed a win to progress to the gold medal match.

Unfortunately, despite playing possibly their best game, the WA team couldn't finish off.
Victoria had two penalty flicks, one going in and the other saved.

A rather disappointing result again.

Goal scorer:

Result: WA 0 - VIC 1

Classification match - WA vs QLD1 - Friday, October 3, 2008

Lost 0-1 A disappointing result for WA. Again they had more than their fair share of the play but couldn't score a goal.

QLD1 scored in the last three minutes of the game when a free in the 25 was upgraded to a penalty corner.

Goal scorer:

Result: WA 0 - QLD1 1
