The Bevan George and Kobie McGurk Cups are set to sizzle from October 22, with notable hockey legends lining up to compete in the historic tournament at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University.

WA's Masters hockey community is as talent-laden as they come, with ex-Hockeyroos and Kookaburras legends hitting the field regularly, with this tournament no different.

Stars include ex-Kookaburra and 2004 Athens Olympic gold medallist Bevan George and former Hockeyroo and 2006 Commonwealth games gold medallist Kobie McGurk, holding the honour of being recognised through the tournament's name.

Ex-Kookaburra and UWA Hockey legend Trid Woodhouse will hit the field, with Woodhouse playing a key role in the tournament's formation; other Kookaburras include Chris Ciriello, a 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Grant Schubert, a 2004 Athens Olympics and 2006 Commonwealth Games Gold medallist.

Local club legends will also line-up in the Kobie McGurk Cup, with UWA Hockey legend and former Hockeyroos Shayni Nelson bringing her almost 400 games of All Flags Premier League experience to the table.

Men aged 35-50 can register for the Bevan George Cup and Women aged 30-50 can register for the Kobie McGurk Cup.

Registrations for women to compete in the Kobie McGurk Cup are now open to players 30 and above.

This weekend of matches was organised again due to the lack of an interstate tournament. Matches were played on Saturday 2nd October from 11:15 am and Sunday 3rd October from 9:30 am at the UWA turfs in Mt Claremont in age groups from O/55s to O/75s. The weekend included a dinner on Saturday evening which I was not able to attend.

Many thanks must go to the organisers and to the UWA Club for providing their facilities and staff. Even though the Country sides did not win a match it was still a most enjoyable weekend. Well done to Naomi Noble (WA Masters), Peter Andrews (WA Masters) and Shane Knapp (umpires). Well done also to Mike Jenkins, WA Country President and any other WAC people who organised.

Thanks also to the volunteer umpires, who freely volunteered their time and without whom we could not have had the weekend.

Saturday: Steve Farrar, Allan Sadler, Mike Waite, Shane Knapp and Dave Ferguson.

Sunday: Peter Hood, Graeme Hall, Stuart Chase and Shane Knapp.
